R744 System Recharging and Repair
R744 is the very latest refrigerant being used.
Currently its use is in several high end marques and models of vehicle. These currently are the leading German brands. It is however set to become widely used across all marques including electric vehicles.
R744 is in fact refined CO2, its has a GWP of 1 and this is why its use is becoming more popular. In order for CO2 to work well as a refrigerant dryness (lack of moisture) is critical. However the system pressures required are in the region 10 times that of it predecessors. Due to the complexity and high pressures involved there are very few places that can maintain these systems, in fact very few dealers even have the equipment to be able to.
